Belfast City Hall
Belfast City Hall
Belfast was granted the status of the city in 1888. Construction of “grand and magnificent building required to reflect this new status” began in 1898 and City Hall was completed in 1906. The exterior is built in the Baroque Revival style, mainly from Portland stone, featuring towers at each of the four corners and a lantern-crowned 173 foot copper dome in the centre which dominates the skyline of Belfast city centre. As with the other Victorian buildings in the city centre, the City Hall's copper-coated domes are a distinctive green. It is a Grade A listed building.
