This Grade I-listed building has been described as “the largest and stateliest" parish church in Leicestershire. Built on a plan more usual for cathedrals, it is a rare example of a parish church with aisled transepts (one of only five in the country). The stonework in the lowest section of the tower, which has Norman windows, dates from 1170. The church fell into such a state of disrepair that in 2016 it was deemed "unfit for purpose”, a situation that lead to an appeal for £2m to restore it. It is hoped that the re-ordering project will be completed by November 2017.
