Coleham Head Pumpings Station - condenser
Coleham Head Pumpings Station - condenser
This is Shrewsbury's sewage pumping station and was opened in 1901 with steam pumps. It now uses electric pumps and the two beam engines are preserved and their pumps run dry. This shows one of the surface condensers at the far end of the basement. In the bottom right corner is the disconnected boiler feed pump that was operated by an eccentric on the valve gear drive shaft.

The preservation Trust has only recently started allowing guided tours of part of the basement. These add to the enjoyment of this splendid site.
