The charter train was considerably longer than the platform at Skipton. It was a rather wet day.
The Dalesman (charter train)
West Coast Railways operate a summer charter train service between York and Carlisle, called the Dalesman. It is diesel hauled as far as Hellifield (provided with watering facilities for steam locomotives) then steam hauled over the Settle-Carlisle line.
Skipton Station
Skipton station is on the Airedale Line and opened in 1847. It is operated by Northern Rail and is situated 27 miles north-west of Leeds.

The station has four platforms and links Skipton to Leeds, Bradford, Carlisle, Lancaster and Morecambe.
