Hemp agrimony (Eupatorium cannabinum)
Hemp agrimony (Eupatorium cannabinum)
Hemp agrimony can be found growing in a wide range of damp or wet habitats including ponds and lakes, rivers and canals, fens, marshes, wet meadows and wet woodland in most parts of Britain and throughout Europe. It is much favoured by butterflies. The plant is also known as a medicinal herb, with its leaves containing a volatile oil acting on the kidneys, and some tannin which helps treating fevers. In the Netherlands it is recorded to have once been used by the peasants for jaundice with swollen feet, and given as an alternative or purifier of the blood in the spring and also against scurvy.
