Greater Celandine (Chelidonium majus) is a member of the Poppy family. The fruit is the seedpod or capsule. The seeds are small, many, shiny and black with a white appendage. It was observed that the capsule splits in two; the halves fall away and the seeds follow. The orange filaments are what remains briefly the shrivelled placentae that bore the ovules that developed as seeds. The plant is one of a small colony that lives in almost permanent daytime shade against the flank wall of a railway bridge.
