Hardwick Hall
Hardwick Hall
Hardwick Hall pictured here in 1980. Hardwick Hall was built in the 1590s for 'Bess of hardwick' (Elizabeth Shrewsbury, the Countess of Shrewsbury). At the time the house was remarkable for its large windows, and as a result inspired the local saying 'Hardwick Hall, more glass than wall'.
