Whiteford Point Lighthouse
Whiteford Point Lighthouse
Cast-iron lighthouse built in 1865 by the Llanelli Harbour and Burry Navigation Commissioners to mark the shoals of Whiteford Point. It stands 13.4m in height and is constructed of eight courses of cast-iron plates. It remained in use until 1921, when the light was extinguished, and briefly had a second life between 1982 and about 1990 when it housed an automatic solar-powered beacon. Now disused and rather dilapidated, the lighthouse is Grade II listed and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
