Ruddy Darter (Sympetrum sanguineum) - male
Ruddy darters are smaller than the Common darter and their legs are black. Mature males are blood-red whereas females have an ochre-yellow abdomen and thorax. Ruddy darters are widespread especially in south-east England and central Ireland where they can commonly be seen near weedy ponds and ditches and frequently also in woods.
