John Charles Le Pelly Hatten (1875-1943) was educated at Selwyn College, Cambridge and ordained in 1901. He was a curate at St Wilfrid, Haywards Heath and here between 1904 and 1906. After another curacy at St Michael, Headingley, Leeds he was the incumbent at Ewhurst until he came here. During the First World War he was a Chaplain to the Forces.
