Pilleth Church
The Church of Our Lady of Pilleth occupies a peaceful hillside location above the Lugg Valley. Things have not always been so quiet, however. In 1402 a bloody battle was fought here between the forces of Owen Glendower and an army led by Sir Edmund Mortimer. As part of this conflict the church was damaged by fire and had to be rebuilt. The new church, apart from the tower, was itself gutted by fire in 1894 and remained as a burnt out shell until 1905 when work started to restore it.
