Yet more new occupiers?
This rather sad and boarded building has a much better past. It was the Friends Provident life insurance company Bristol offices, designed jointly by A.W. Roques with Sir Giles Gilbert Scott (son of Sir George Gilbert Scott) - who was responsible for the frontage - in the early 1930s. As befits the ethos, the Quakers Samuel Tuke and Joseph Rowntree founded the company in 1832, with the intention of providing financial security to all members. This was part of a greater vision regarding the social disadvantages and injustices at that time.

The building features many details, including the two large statues either side of the door: prominent sculptor Hermon Cawthra created ‘Peace and Plenty’ (left) and ‘Benevolence and Prudence’ (right). Above the Portland Stone doorway is a lovely metal grille featuring a frieze of female dancers either side of a figure of Wisdom, holding an owl.

Although previously the venue for a number of restaurants and now empty, the building remains Grade II listed.
