Old lime kiln in Kirkdale
Old lime kiln in Kirkdale
There's so much undergrowth here, particularly head high nettles, that close examination of the kiln [or kilns] is very difficult. Under the vegetation there could be a single draw arch [as seen here], two, or even three. An old limestone quarry is to the rear. The kilns are shown on the 1856 edition OS map, but by the 1914 edition are shown as 'old limekiln'.
