Wheat harvest in Surlingham
Wheat harvest in Surlingham
The operation involved a John Deere combine harvester > Link , a baler > Link , and a gamekeeper > Link - the former determined to bring in the harvest before the rain that had been forecast, the latter determined to shoot any rabbits dashing out of the wheat crop in front of the combine. Other wildlife, including a Chinese water deer and her calf, and a hare not sure where to go, was spared. At regular intervals, the grain crop was collected and taken to the farm by waiting tractors towing large trailers, whilst a worker operating the baler was driving his tractor up and down the rows of discarded straw in order to bale it.
