taken 7 years ago, near to Hayes, Hillingdon, England

Hayes & Harlington station in the rain
Hayes & Harlington station in the rain
The Great Western Railway (GWR) opened its broad gauge tracks between Paddington and Taplow on 4th June 1838. The station was opened in the 1860s but at that time was just known as Hayes. The last broad-gauge services were operated in 1892.

This view is from the down slow platform looking back in the direction of Southall which is the previous station. The two fast lines are away to the right beyond the railings. To the left Platform 5 is a bay terminus platform, which is used for a daily half hourly shuttle service to Paddington. A train is waiting for the return to Paddington and this will stop at all stations. It rained all day and was as wet as it looks here.
