Platt Hall

Platt Hall was the home of the Worsley family for 300 years. The current hall, is a Grade II* listed building. LinkExternal link built by Timothy Lightoler for John and Deborah Carill Worsley to the designs of John Carr of York, in 1746.

Demolition plans in 1906 became the source of a public outcry and Manchester Council stepped in bought the estate creating Platt Fields park in the grounds. The hall had several uses but in 1947 became the Gallery of English Costume. It was closed for refurbishment between March 2009 and March 2010 SJ8594 : Platt Hall.
