SK4641 : Tramway feeder box, Market Place

taken 1 year ago, near to Ilkeston, Derbyshire, Great Britain

Tramway feeder box, Market Place
Tramway feeder box, Market Place
Probably the last in-situ relic of the Ilkeston Corporation Tramways. The tramway opened in 1903 and was sold to the Notts and Derby Company in 1916. Trams were replaced by trolleybuses in 1931. The box would have contained switches enabling the current to the overhead to be switched off in an emergency.
