SK4641 : South African War memorial on the Town Hall
taken 2 years ago, near to Ilkeston, Derbyshire, Great Britain

South African War memorial on the Town Hall
Memorials to the South African or Boer War are not as universal as those to the World Wars. The coat of arms is that of the Borough of Ilkeston. At first sight this appears to include the date 1881. In practice the 1s are gloves and the 8s hanks of yarn, representing the hosiery and glove manufactures in which the town specialised.
