The Churchill
The Churchill
Hotel on Bootham. It was built in around 1827 and served as the private residence of with various owners until 1875 when it served as a girl's school called Bootham House for a few years. In 1882 it became the residence of the Principal Secretary to the War Department, after which it went through various roles as for the government, eventually ending up as a Customs and Excise office before it closed in 1984. The following year it opened as a hotel, with further development as such in 2006. Grade II* listed - see LinkExternal link.
