Without doubt the A55 must count as one of the most scenic trunk roads anywhere in the UK, in many places squeezing through between the hills and the sea. It is a spectacular and fast drive, eliminating the tedious succession of coastal towns on the old road. Nevertheless, it has brought noise and visual pollution as well as in some places restricting access between town and beach.
A55 Road
The A55 is also known as the North Wales expressway. Originally it ran from Chester to Bangor, but was extended in 2001 across Anglesey to Holyhead. It is dual carriageway along its entire length.
