SK4740 : Gallows Inn, Ilkeston

taken 1 year ago, near to Trowell, Nottinghamshire, Great Britain

Gallows Inn, Ilkeston
Gallows Inn, Ilkeston
The name of the inn refers to the gallows which remained until the 1870s, and the whole area became known as Gallows Inn. This appears on 1880s OS maps, although at this time the pub is named as the Horse and Groom; the adjacent lock is however named as Gallows Inn Lock. The present building is not the original, dating from the early 20th century.
