Settle to Carlisle railway line
The Settle to Carlisle Line is a 73 mile long main railway line in northern England. It was constructed in the 1870s. It is generally recognised as one of the most attractive railway lines in the country as it crosses the Yorkshire Dales.

The Dalesman (charter train)
West Coast Railways operate a summer charter train service between York and Carlisle, called the Dalesman. It is diesel hauled as far as Hellifield (provided with watering facilities for steam locomotives) then steam hauled over the Settle-Carlisle line.
