Bluehouse Farm Nature Reserve
Looking along a permissive path which here uses the top of an old sea wall. On the right was once a creek which was won from the sea at some time prior to around 1773 when the first detailed map survey was made. Probably hundreds of years earlier, but records of early land reclamation are poor. The form of the wall, quite high and broad, suggests later improvement. This was either to act as a counter wall, or, particularly because of the width, to give dry vehicle access to the east side of the main seawall breaches that occurred in 1897 and were finally remedied in 1907 at the expense of losing some land in two new bays.
