The entrance to the part of the castle formerly used as a prison. Begun circa 1150, and built partly on the site of a Roman fort, the castle has been extended, altered, adapted and partially rebuilt over the intervening centuries. The Crown Court is located at the castle and from 1955 until 2013, most of the castle buildings were used as a prison. Listed, grade I, there is a great amount of detail at: Link
SD4761 : Brock Street, Lancaster The Pub is called 'The Penny Bank' and was the former Nat West Bank. Wall of Ale relates to a Beer festival I think which I unfortunately missed.
