Tees Cottage Pumping Station
Tees Cottage Pumping Station
The Darlington Corporation Waterworks at Tees Cottage used to pump water up from the adjacent River Tees for water supply to the town and surrounding area. The buildings are a listed structure with the oldest dating from 1849. They house a steam-powered beam engine, gas and electric pumps uniquely still in first-class condition. Since the Works were closed in 1980 the machinery has been maintained by enthusiastic volunteers of a Preservation Trust. The Works are open to the public on a few days each year.
