Croatian round-house on the Tissington Trail, near Parsley Hay
Built by Croatian craftsmen using traditional dry stone walling techniques, to celebrate Croatia's accession to the EU in 2013. Called a "kažun", it is a gift from the Republic of Croatia.
These small, circular shelters with conical roofs were built mainly in the 1700s and 1800s for farm workers and animals in the limestone countryside of the Istria region of Croatia. The builders used limestone from the nearby Once-a-Week Quarry and sandstone roof slates from Wellfield Quarry, near Huddersfield.
