NT5776 : Fields beside the (old) A1

taken 38 years ago, near to Traprain, East Lothian, Great Britain

Fields beside the (old) A1
Fields beside the (old) A1
Looking from the old A1 (now the A199) west of East Linton towards Traplain Law in July 1980. The A1 was later re-routed to bypass East Linton, and now runs through the field in the foreground.

Traplain Law is one of the best known examples of a laccolith; an igneous intrusion of magma between two layers of strata, which spreads out and bulges into a mushroom shape, deforming the strata above it. The upper rocks have subsequently been eroded to leave the more resistant igneous rock as a dome-shaped hill.
