The area around the burn has been quarried in the past. The cliff face on the left shows an exposure of dark shales with bands of ironstone nodules which are stratigraphically just above the Blackhall Limestone (Lower Carboniferous), which is exposed in the burn below.
Cairnbog Farm is just visible behind some trees.
