Eton Fives court, High Elms
Eton Fives court, High Elms
The country house High Elms is now demolished but among the outbuildings that remain is this Eton Fives court, built in 1859 (the first recorded game being on New Year's Day, 1860). The game evolved beside the chapel at Eton College and courts for playing it reproduce that environment, hence the single buttress.
