Red goosefoot and fat hen
Red goosefoot and fat hen
Growing on the site of a former manure heap on the edge of a crop field. Both plants are members of the genus Chenopodium of which 8 or 9 species are known to exist in Britain. The genus includes several salt-tolerant plants of the amaranth family and can be found in temperate regions around the world. Goosefoot plants frequently have an unpleasant smell and a number of species have leaves resembling the foot of a goose - hence their common name.
