Wild carrot (Daucus carota)
Wild carrot (Daucus carota)
This is a common plant > LinkExternal link of chalk grasslands, with a domed flower head that consists of lots of small florets. It is also known as Queen Anne's Lace, due to the flowers much resembling lace. Queen Anne is known to have been a renowned lace maker. The plant's root is edible, tasting much like the cultivated variety. Since many members of the carrot family, notably the hemlock, are poisonous, great care should be taken when harvesting wild carrots for food.
