Grand Union Canal (Slough Arm), near Iver
Looking through the M25 bridge towards Slough basin. The Slough arm runs for about five miles, is mostly straight and, in truth, not particularly interesting with limited facilities for boaters. It was a very late addition to the canal network, not opening until 1882 - by which time many canals were feeling the effects of railway competition. Nevertheless it was successful, carrying a specific traffic, bricks, from the area's brickworks into London. Carrying continued until 1960.
