A Red Data Book cranefly in Brede High Woods
This cranefly (Tanyptera nigricornis) looks as though it is imitating an ichneumon wasp though, as with ichneumons, the pointed tail is an ovipositor, not a sting. This species is listed as RDB3 and generally rather scarce. The larvae develop in dead wood.

Brede High Woods is owned and managed by the Woodland Trust.
