This plant > Link can be found growing on arable land, in woods, fens and wet heaths. It has a tradition of being used as a medicinal herb for treating bronchial congestion, hay fever, ashma, bed wetting, various skin diseases and was reputedly also used for coughs, for treating spleen problems and tuberculosis. The white-flowering variant depicted here is less common than the pink-flowering variant.
