For a wider view of this location see > LinkExternal link. Rowans (Sorbus aucuparia) can be found growing mainly in the cooler regions of the northern hemisphere and in the UK are most common in the north and west, particularly in the highlands of Scotland, and frequently growing in high altitudes. The Rowan is believed to provide protection against evil spirits and witchcraft and crosses made of its branches are worn for this reason.
