"Near the site of this ancient cross Margaret Tudor of England" [daughter of Henry VII] "was given sasine of her dowry of Ettrick Forest on her marriage in 1503 to James IV of Scotland which led to the historic Union of the Crowns in 1603" [when James VI of Scotland became James I of England]
