As well as for local drinkers the Talbot Inn was an C18th coaching inn patronised by travellers using nearby Loughborough Road. Parish records of St Peterís Church certainly mention it in 1784. It originally had three storeys, each with three typical small C18th paned windows. However, its height was reduced to two storeys in the 1950s after the pub was badly damaged by fire. Talbots were a type of white hunting dog that gradually became extinct. They are said however, to be the forebears of the modern beagle. Belgrave Hall, Belgrave House and St Peter's Church, all of which are listed buildings, are situated on Church Road, which joins Thurcaston Road near the "Lounge" door of this pub.
