Southgate underground station
Southgate underground station
Perhaps the greatest of Charles Holden's stations for the 1930s Piccadilly Line extension (under the direction of the Underground's Frank Pick): influenced by the civic modernism of the Netherlands and Scandinavia, they are characterised by the use of warm brown brick and a raised central rectangle or drum that admits light to the ticket hall. Behind, Station Parade - part of the same composition - provides a bus interchange.
