The small building is Cable House, and is the point where the first telephone cable between Scotland and Ireland came ashore in 1853. It ran 27 miles across the North Channel to Donaghadee [LinkExternal link]. The cable then ran on to Carlisle to connect with other parts of Scotland and England.
