Brown's Point and Brown's Bay, Whitley Bay
Brown's Point and Brown's Bay, Whitley Bay
Taken about 1928/9 by my late aunt in the days when the Post Office coastal radio station was most active, the Morse messages then flying between the many ships plying the coast and the shore.

Station GCC, presumably G for Great Britain, CC for Cullercoats Coastal. Active from 1906 until 1997. A receiving station that was able to intercept Morse transmissions from German vessels in both World Wars.

As a new mast was erected in 1929 I wonder if this is the original, or the new replacement?

This had a fascinating history, better told in this clip here; LinkExternal link
