Already nicknamed the cheese grater, the Solar Gate, a 10m tall stainless steel sculpture by architects Tonkin Liu, was erected in Queen's Gardens on 15 August 2017. Installation works continue. The sculpture includes 16 steel plates engraved with key dates in Hullís history. Solar Gate is intended to cast beautiful shadows over the park by day and will be artistically lit by night.
