Common Polypody (Polypodium vulgare)
Common Polypody (Polypodium vulgare)
This common and widespread medium-sized fern can frequently be found in damp, shady gorges and banks in woodlands, as well as on rocks, walls and mossy branches. The three species of polypody look very similar and are hence difficult to identify. They all have fronds of simple, finger-like leaflets growing out of the main stem > LinkExternal link and their spore-bearing organs (depicted here) are small, round, and situated on the underside of the fronds.
