In the South wall of the nave are two very early pieces of sculpture, dated by Pevsner (Brooks) to be 9th century or earlier. This cross is the smaller of the two pieces and has an inscription, thought to be later. It is thrilling to think that this site has been in continuous use and serving its original function for more than 1200 years and possibly many more.
