Battle of Hopton Heath memorial stone and information board
The battle took place in 1643 during the English Civil War. A Royalist force under the Duke of Northampton successfully prevented capture of Stafford by Parliamentarian forces. Both sides claimed victory, as the Duke was killed in the fight. A part of the site is occupied by a MOD site, but this has the advantage that the monument LinkExternal link and information board are protected from vandalism.
