United Utilities Construction Work on Anchorsholme Beach
United Utilities is building a new stormwater pumping station and 3.75 km long sea outfall at Anchorsholme, Blackpool, in order to enhance the sewer network in Blackpool and help the bathing waters of the Fylde Coast to meet European regulations. The new facilities will replace an existing pumping station and shorter pipe, located on the sea front at the end of Anchorsholme Lane West.

The new outfall pipe will be used during periods of heavy rain to pump storm water away from the sewer network. This will not only help prevent flooding of properties, but with the storm water being pumped so far out into sea (the current outfall pipe is only 1km in length), it will help to protect bathing waters. The project involves the construction of a new pumping station within Anchorsholme Park. The new outfall pipe which will pass from there, beneath the sea wall, is being installed in a trench beneath the beach and out to sea. United Utilities work should be finished in 2019 and a completely revamped Anchorsholme Park is expected to be re-opened in 2020, boasting a new bowling club, a café, outdoor seating area, children’s playground, sports area with tennis courts and a trim trail.
