St Laurence, Aldfield - pulpit
St Laurence, Aldfield - pulpit
The church was built in the 18th century and is grade 2* listed (list entry 1149796) as it still retains its Georgian furnishings such as box pews and this triple-decker pulpit. The idea of these was that at morning prayer, the Vicar would stand in the top section to preach a sermon, the curate would stand below him to lead the prayers and read from the Bible, and a lay person would sit alongside to assist in other ways.
