Mayburgh Henge, Eamont Bridge
This massive henge monument of the late Neolithic Period (3000 to 2000 BC) encloses an area of 0.6 hectares. It may once have served as a meeting place for a prehistoric community and was part of a complex of three henges in this area. Of the four standing stones, recorded in the centre in the 18th century, only one remains. The banks are constructed of cobbles from the nearby River Lowther. The henge is in the care of English Heritage.
