This National Trail is 184 miles (294 km) long, following the River Thames from its source in the Cotswolds almost to the sea, finishing at the Thames Barrier in Greenwich.

Shakespeare's Way is a 146 mile long distance footpath from Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon to the Globe theatre in London. It follows as nearly as possible a route that Shakespeare may have taken between the two, but using footpaths, quiet lanes and towpaths, rather than his tracks, which are today's main roads.

The River Thames rises at Thames Head in Gloucestershire on the slopes of the Cotswolds and flows generally eastward to its mouth near Southend in Essex. At 215 miles long it is one of the longest rivers in Britain, and the longest entirely within England. It is one of the most important rivers in Britain. Link

National Route 5 of the National Cycle Network is a long distance route which when complete will connect Reading and Holyhead via Oxford, Banbury, Stratford-upon-Avon, Redditch, Bromsgrove, Birmingham, Walsall, Stafford, Stoke-on-Trent, Chester, Colwyn Bay and Bangor. The southern half of the route between Reading and Walsall is open and signed whilst the northern half between Walsall and Holyhead is still under development.
