The former Scottish Mutual was sold recently to a new developer. This long-awaited conversion, from offices to hotel, is due to be completed by the summer of 2018 and will be called “The George Best Hotel”. This hoarding is on the Bedford Street side.
The proposed Scottish Mutual hotel site, Belfast

An imposing sandstone, turreted structure at the corner of Donegall Square South and Bedford Street, the Scottish Temperance (later Scottish Mutual) Buildings were built in 1904 to a design by Henry Seaver and remain “as built”. It was reported (July 2013) that the intention is to convert the building into a hotel incorporating ground-floor bars and restaurants.
