NZ0442 : Dry stone wall with through-stone stile

taken 7 years ago, 3 km from Waskerley, County Durham, England

Dry stone wall with through-stone stile
Dry stone wall with through-stone stile
The wall extends uphill to the west from Catchwater Plantation; it has been rebuilt, at least in part, and has numbered gun stances. The through stones allow crossing of the wall so that the gun positions can be accessed easily for firing in either direction.
